On a beautiful November afternoon, I met with Rachelle at The Shop in Kalona for her senior portrait session. We began in the little alleyway to the west of The Shop. I love the beautiful white walls and bright concrete in the alley. It makes for a simple background and beautiful lighting.
From the alley, we wandered around downtown Kalona, which is full of great little spots for portraits. Rachelle was a bit nervous as we began our walk through downtown, but she is a natural. It was so much fun working with her!
At the end of our time in Kalona, we headed inside The Shop for a few fun portraits. I love it in there! So many fun and unique props, plus the owners are amazing. Rachelle loves to read, so the image of her with the book is perfect for her personality.
We headed back to Wellman, once we finished in The Shop. Wellman's North Park is a great location. I love the evening light through the trees there, especially the willow. Love the portraits of Rachelle by the willow! Gorgeous!
While not being a location people typically think of for portraits, the Wellman band shell is a great neutral backdrop and has amazing lighting. I think the acoustics of it lend themselves to smiles, because I know I sound really odd while I'm in there with my voice echoing around.
Our next stop was downtown Wellman. By this point in the evening, things were getting chilly. Rachelle was a trooper though, and braved the cold like a champ. As the evening got further along, I lent my coat with her between shots so she could warm up. November evenings get cold, so I insisted she warm up with my coat for a bit.
We ended our session as the sun set out on a gravel road outside of Wellman. A beautiful location to end this session with the gorgeous Rachelle.
It was an absolute pleasure working with Rachelle. Best wishes to her as she finished up her senior year!
