On a gorgeous September evening, I met with Jon and Alyssa at the Lake McBride Spillway for their engagement session. The weather was perfect and these two were a joy to work with.
They first met in undergrad while doing chemistry research together over the summer (yes they're nerds and they love it!). They didn't know each other well then. That fall, Alyssa was eating in the university's union, when Jon came to her table and asked if he could join her for lunch. She was quite taken aback because he's a very shy person. She says that even now it seems so out of character for him! They started dating a couple weeks later.
Alyssa thought he was "the one" the day he sat with her for lunch in the union. It was the first time they really had a conversation. She remembers texting her mom the same night and telling her "I met the dream guy today". She wasn't sure we'd end up together, but she knew that day he was perfect for her.
Their first date consisted of a movie marathon. They watched Mean Girls because he hadn't seen it (which Alyssa thought was just bizarre), Rush Hour 2, and Shooter. They didn't even watch the last two movies because they were talking the entire time. Alyssa still remembers sitting with him on a giant bean bag, not watching the movies.
Alyssa and Jon love playing board games. Some of our their best memories and favorite times together include spending a Friday night with a group of friends playing board games. They always end up laughing and having so much fun all night.
The proposal story is a little different than most. They worked together to pick the ring. They went to ring stores together, and eventually decided to design the ring online and ordered it together. It was more of a joint decision to get married rather than a "proposal" which Alyssa was completely fine with. She says "It was really fun to pick everything out together and decide together that we wanted to spend our lives together. When the ring was delivered, we opened it together and he got down on one knee in our apartment. The ring was perfect and special because we designed it together. It was very casual but perfect for us." Beautiful!!
Alyssa loves how goofy Jon is. She says "He is so reserved in public, but at home he is so goofy and funny! I love that he's so comfortable around me to really be his true self."
When I asked what they were most excited about for their future, Alyssa shared "Our dream is to live in a small and cozy house in the country with a huge fenced in back yard. We want two or three kids as well as lots of animals! We are both passionate about animal shelter dogs and cats, so we are so excited to have our own little "zoo". We will have a busy household and we are looking forward to that."
What a beautiful love story these two share!!! I cannot wait to capture their wedding next summer!
