So you want epic wedding photos? Of course you do!! Well, one big factor in creating those epic photos (aside from hiring a professional behind the lens) is light. Light is so important in photography. So to help you plan your day in a way to help your photographer have the best opportunity to create gorgeous images, here are some tips to consider.
Choose a getting ready location that allows for some great window light. Everyone looks better in natural light and it allows for natural colors, compared to the orange-y light bulbs that are most often used in lamps and lighting fixtures. Speaking of which, don't freak out if your photographer turns out the in-room lights while they're doing their thing. It keeps the different colored light sources from making weird color patterns in your images.
Open shade is your friend on a sunny day. Standing in harsh, direct sunlight will result in harsh shadows, squinting, and a lot of other unpleasant things you really don't want in your portraits. Consider choosing a park or other location that has some shady areas to allow for nice, even lighting.
Don't be afraid to sneak out from your reception to take advantage of Golden Hour. Don't worry, you don't need to leave for an hour, just about 15-20 minutes should be just fine, especially with an experienced photographer. Believe me, your guests will hardly know you've left if you time it right and you will be SO HAPPY you took the time to do a few more portraits in the gorgeous evening light!
Hopefully these tips will help you plan an even more epic wedding day and help your photographer create stunning images!
