This sweet couple traveled half way around the world to celebrate their wedding and it was gorgeous! I'm so honored to have been a part of Chuan and Ye's wedding day. They are the sweetest and were such a joy to work with! They are both originally from Shanghai, but came to Iowa for their wedding. Ye attended college at the U, so it was a great location to have their destination wedding.
Let's take a moment to appreciate Ye's dress. Do you see that train? GORGEOUS!!! It was like a fairy tale gown.
Chuan and Ye selected the Hotel Vetro to get ready and it was perfect. I love all the gorgeous natural light.
Ye's bouquet, created by the fabulous Hydrangea Bloom, was a beautiful mix of pinks and blush tones. Stunning!
Her engagement ring is from Tiffany's and it is so beautiful! Simple and elegant, perfection!
I had so much fun with the ladies as they prepared for the day. What a wonderful group to work with!
Chuan's parents helped him prepare for the wedding day. I love the images of his mother helping him adjust his bowtie.
It was 20 years ago (in 1998), Ye and Chuan first met each other. They were in the same class in their second grade year at elementary school. Some of Ye and Chuan’s earliest memories about each other were study hard together and both being good students, especially in English. Chuan said Ye was always a girl who is sweet and smart. Ye recalled at that time Chuan was a little shy but smart and friendly.
They ended up attending different high schools and lost track of each other, but reconnected during their college years.
Their first date was a 9-day long trip touring Iowa city and Chicago. The campus of University of Iowa was the first place they visited together since their last meet six years before in Shanghai. Their first day in Chicago, they took a night walk down the Magnificent Mile. As they walked they found the Hubbard Street Pedestrian Overpass barricaded due to a wide puddle. However, they managed to stride over it hand in hand, which consolidated their friendship into relationship. For the following days with a joint heart, they enjoyed Hamilton in the Chicago Theater, ice hockey in the United Center, and the Iowa Hawkeyes in Kinnick Stadium. They finished their week with a birthday party for Ye, and sensational memory for both of them. Such a beautiful story!
I love the stairway in the Old Capitol for first looks. It is so grand and filled with gorgeous light. But the stairway pales in comparison to Ye's gown. It flowed so beautifully behind her as she descended the stairs to see Chuan for the first time.
The light and architecture in the Old Capitol is so fantastic. I love having the opportunity to photograph there. Chuan and Ye's wedding colors fit in beautifully in the location as well. So beautiful!
I have so much more to share from Chuan and Ye's Iowa City destination wedding, so be sure to check back again soon for the rest of their big day!
